What is trichomoniasis
Trichomoniasis infection (trich) is a common cause of vaginal irritation in women and is one of the most common sexually transmitted diseases. The annual incidence of Trichomonas vaginalis infections in the United States has been estimated at five million cases. Trichomoniasis infections are commonly seen with other STDs, most notably gonorrhea. The majority of women with trichomoniasis also have bacterial vaginosis (BV). It has been associated with serious problems in newborns, including prematurity, low birth weight, and increases in HIV transmission.
