A fungal skin infection is an overgrowth of fungi (tinea) on the skin that can express a wide variety of skin symptoms. Fungal infections on the body are commonly known as ringworm. Problem areas for fungal infections are usually found in moist areas of the body, such as the skin, feet, genitals, or in between skin folds. In children, scalp ringworm is the most common.
