What causes contact dermatitis?
Different causes of contact dermatitis?
Many materials, allergens, chemicals, or plants can cause contact dermatitis, a skin condition that is characterized by itchy red skin that generally recedes after time.
Plants that cause allergic contact dermatitis:
- Plants containing urushiol
- Poison ivy and poison oak
- Fruits or vegetables, depending on a patient’s allergies
- Mango Peel
- Unroasted shells of Cashew nuts
- Ginkgo Biloba leaves
- Japanese lacquer trees
Other irritants causing contact dermatitis:
- Metals such as Nickel (found in many household appliances)
- Metals contained in some jewelry (gold)
- Cleaning detergents and soaps
- Cosmetics and fragrances
- Formaldehyde
- Latex or rubber based materials
- Some antibiotic medicines or creams
- Glues and adhesives
- Athletic equipment (goggles)
- Seawater
