Ovarian cancer stages
The different stages of ovarian cancer describe the location of ovarian cancer growth and how far the cancer has spread.
Early stage ovarian cancer
Stages I and II are considered early state ovarian cancer. Early stage cancer has a 90% cure rate.
- Stage I. The cancer is found only in the ovaries.
- Stage II. The cancer has spread to the uterus, fallopian tubes, bladder, rectum, or other pelvic organs.
Middle to Advanced stage ovarian cancer
Advanced stage cancer refers to the spread of cancer cells to the abdomen and distant organs of the body.
- Stage III. The cancer has spread to the abdominal wall or involves the lymph nodes. The 5 year survival rate is 70%.
- Stage IV. The cancer has spread to distant organs of the body, such as the liver or lungs. The 5 year survival rate is 30%.
