What are the treatments for chlamydia?
Treating chlamydia
Following detection, standard treatment for genital infection with Chlamydia consists of a single oral dose of 1 g of azithromycin or 100 mg of doxycycline orally twice daily for 7 days. Single dose azithromycin therapy is recommended due to higher patient compliance. Reinfection of chlamydia may occur in 10% of patients.
The treatment of upper genital tract infections requires a longer treatment period (14–21 days), and the combination of several antibiotics to control other bacteria involved.
