Testing for chlamydia
Specimens for Chlamydia testing are taken as urethral swabs in men, and endocervical or urethral swabs for women. Other specimen sites include the eye conjunctiva, nose and throat, or deeper respiratory tract. Urine samples are also collected for Chlamydia testing.
NAATs testing are highly sensitive and specific to test for Chlamydia. Yearly testing is recommended for all women younger than 25 years who have been sexually active and for anyone who is pregnant.
